During my Grade four at Saint Vincent’s School Elementary, I had a traumatic experience. My adventurous friend, Venus, invited me and my other friends, Heirnce, Elaine and Kevyn Jane to go swimming at the upper part of the Chico. At first, I hesitated to go with them because my parents will be angry and we were not even accompanied by an adult. But it was very hot that day so I decided to go with them.
We decided to go to the wider part of the river. The water was clean and there were many rocks in it. I was sitting on one of the big rocks and I saw some people washing clothes, and children happily swimming. I was also watching my friends who were swimming. After sometime, Elaine splashed me with cold water. She told me to join them but I said no. She kept on splashing me with water, I told her to stop. She said she won’t stop until I’ll join them so I decided to join them. I just stayed in the water playing and wading. Elaine told me to try floating. She told me it was just easy. I tried. At first, it was difficult to float because of the water but after sometime, I floated but it was just for a minute. I felt my body going down. I got afraid thinking that I may get drowned so I let my one foot step on a rock. Unluckily, the rock was slippery so my foot slipped. I shrieked so Elaine pulled my arm in panic.
After that incident, I was afraid to go back because of the fear that I might drown again. Accidents always happen anytime so when going to a place, we need to have a companion because we don’t know what may happen. And because of this experience, I never learned how to swim.
